The 2022 edition of Tractor of the Year (TotY) has been presented on digital channel www.totydigital.com. It is the most important event of the year for the European tractor business. Four tractor models will be elected in as many categories. A panel of 26 European business journalists together judge and finally elect the award winners.

For the second year the election is supported by BKT. The Indian multinational, global manufacturer of specialist Off-Highway tires, has a strong presence in the agricultural market. BKT shares with TotY the focus on innovation in agricultural mechanization, the sharing approach, the cutting-edge.

“It is very important to be here because this is where the major agricultural issues are discussed: from sustainability to autonomous transport, from data management to analysis to optimize and increase the efficiency of operations” states Lucia Salmaso, CEO at BKT Europe. “They are all topics on which BKT too is focusing on resources and research. Furthermore, tractors mean everything in agriculture and tires mean everything for tractors. They are the only contact point with the soil, the object which transforms tractor power into traction. TotY is the right place for us!”

Tractor of the Year is an international award, created in 1998, which every year brings together the leading publications in the world of agricultural mechanization, to create a jury of 26 experts from 25 different countries who through analysis, discussion, and field tests, presents the Award to the best European tractor.

Four categories

As every year there are four categories for the Award.

It starts with the classic Tractor of the Year open to all tractors and for which this year the candidates are: Case IH, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, New Holland and Valtra.

Second category is Best Utility, for multifunction tractors and the participants are: Claas, John Deere, Landini, Massey Ferguson and Valtra.

Third category: Best of Specialized for tractors which work in vineyards, orchards, hillsides and mountains. The competitors are: Antonio Carraro, Carraro Tractors, Ferrari and Reform.

Last category: Sustainable TotY which rewards the best tractor from the first three categories in terms of sustainability and the competitors are: Antonio Carraro, Carraro Tractors, Case IH, Claas, John Deere, Ferrari, Landini, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Reform and Valtra.

Full of surprises

“This year too TotY will be fascinating and full of surprises” says Fabio Zammaretti, President of Tractor of the Year. “There are 14 tractors in competition divided into the three categories and all the finalists also take part in the special award, Sustainable TotY. As always the evaluation of the tractors in competition will be based on precise technical parameters, with a particular focus on innovation and sustainability. And this is all alongside BKT which I thank. We are sharing together the experience of the new digital editions.”

Among the participants are some new names in the running for Tractor of the Year 2022 and this makes the competition even livelier and more stimulating.

Another innovation are the digital episodes to be broadcast on the TotY Social Media and made by the press network for the Award with analyses from all of Europe regarding agricultural trends, technology and much more.

The real innovation for 2022 will, however, be the live meeting which this year will allow TotY to rewards the winners in person and display their models at the EIMA exhibition in Bologna from 19 to 23 October.

“I would like to wish all best luck to all the participants” Lucia Salmaso goes on. “The possibility of meeting all together again in a single place certainly adds further impetus to the challenge. We are hi-tech, that is true, but we are also human and it is this human passion for the agriculture of today and tomorrow which unites us. See you in Bologna !”
